Sam joined Schick Civil in 2018 as a Roading Operator working on machines such as graders and diggers. After progressing and learning the ropes as a Junior Roading Foreman for two and a half years, Sam has transitioned into his current role of Roading Foreman and is living the Schick values of “get it done” and “lead the way”.
There are multiple aspects of his job that Sam really enjoys; Working outside every day, the variety of work he gets to be involved in and collaborating with other divisions to deliver a project. But ultimately, it is the autonomy he is given to do his job that he really appreciates. During his time at Schick, Sam has proven his strong technical ability on heavy machinery, particularly the digger, and has been given the freedom to get his job done. “It’s cool that I’m left to do my work and they trust me to ‘get it done’ to the Schick standard,” Sam said.
While Sam has most recently been getting it done on his digger at our Ruakura Spine Road project, he has also taken on more of a leadership role, leading crews to deliver smaller tasks within the large project and offering guidance and advice to younger operators. He has taken the opportunity to develop himself, while also developing those around him, epitomizing the Schick value of “lead the way”. Sam said “I learn a lot from the conversations I have with the senior guys on site, and I’ve been able to have some input into the way we deliver the project. I’ve been in the industry since I was 17, so I’m happy to share what I know with the younger guys.”
Sam is known for the awesome videos of his work that he puts together and posts on TiK Tok. Check out his skillfully operating his digger and more of the work he does on his Tik Tok page: https://www.tiktok.com/@xesiv_excavation.
